Junior leads Colombian football league standings

2 de marzo de 2009

After five matches, the main Colombian football league has a solitary leader: Junior, which beat Pasto 2-0. With that result, the team from Barranquilla reached 11 points, one more than Boyacá Chicó and Seguros La Equidad.

In other results, the three teams from Bogotá got points from their matches. Millonarios claimed its first win of the season with a late goal by striker Carmelo Valencia against Cúcuta and Santa Fe, now fourth in the standings, drew away to Medellín scoring the equalizer in injury time. Seguros La Equidad, also from Bogotá, drew 0-0 at home with Real Cartagena.

The situation looks bad for the Medellín teams. Both Nacional, who is currently bottom in the league table with no points, and Medellín, who has drawn three games and lost two, have not been able to win a match in the season. Envigado, on the contrary, managed to get its first win and beat Huila 2-0.

America and Deportivo Cali played the 267 version of the local Cali derby, which favoured the team managed by José Hernández 1-0. America, the title holder, hasn’t won in the most recent three matches.
