President Uribe criticizes native Colombian protests

16 de octubre de 2008

After the violent confrontations between the authorities and native Colombian protesters in the south of Colombia, President Álvaro Uribe spoke against the manifestations last night. He said: “We will not accept traps, because terrorists infiltrate themselves and massacre our policemen, they exercise all sorts of violence, and then they go out and accuse us in front of the international community. Because we simply act and avoid blockades and face the violence. And all with the sole purpose of blocking important steps for Colombia like the approval of the FTA (with the U.S.)”.

The clashes have left more than 100 natives hurt and two dead, while on the authorities’ side more than 10 policemen have been hurt as well.
