Uribe proposes surrender to Venezuela-based guerrillas

28 de julio de 2010

President Alvaro Úribe Vélez suggested FARC and ELN insurgents allegedly settled in Venezuela to lay down their weapons and surrender to Colombian authorities. Uribe put the initiative in the hands of Foreign Relations Minister, Jaime Bermúdez, as an alternative strategy to the “peace plan” for Colombia promoted by Venezuelan government in recent days. In a statement, the outgoing president said he told Bermúdez to “try this formula: if Venezuela has a peace plan, there’s already one here”.
