The 57 year old military chief of Colombia's leftist FARC rebels was killed early Thursday in a joint army, air force and police operation in the south-central province of Meta, officials confirmed. Intelligence officials and police and Defense Ministry sources cited by the local media said Victor Julio Suarez Rojas, better known as Jorge Briceño Suarez or "Mono Jojoy," has been confirmed dead at the site of the military airstrike, a mountainous area of Meta known as La Escalera.
