President Uribe has spoken for the first time in favor of eliminating the DAS, Colombia's intelligence agency, and transferring all its functions and responsiblities to the National Police. The intelligence agency is seen by many as a corrupt agency permeated by mafias and ilegality. It is also allegedly responsible for the wire-taping scandal, which included spying and illegaly listening to private conversations of top members of the opposition, chief justices, journalists and NGO officials.
