Viviane Morales becomes the first female to be elected as Attorney General in Colombia. She replaces Guillermo Mendoza Diago, who was in charge of the attorney’s office since August 2009, when former Attorney General Mario Iguaran finished his period. It took seventeen months for the Supreme Court to elect his replacement, after several clashes between the judiciary and the executive branches of government during president Uribe’s Administration. One of the most important tasks of Morales will be the investigation of the illegal wiretappings that the Security Administrative Department (DAS) made during that era.
