Colombia free trade pact merits passage
Nov 21 -- One of the rumored ways Democrats could soften White House and Republican opposition to a bailout for U.S. automakers is to strike a deal on the Colombian Free Trade Agreement.

And maybe to Washington insiders, such a deal makes political sense. But the Colombian trade pact deserves an up or down vote on its own merits. Forget the horse-trading — the United States would benefit economically from passage of the agreement.
Now, more than ever, that’s reason enough for passage.
